Curriculum Overview

GDQ International Christian School offers an international, academically enriching, biblical education to students ages 5 to 19. Our curriculum and teaching resources pull from both British and U.S. standards. Class sizes run from 6 to 14 students, allowing for individualized and small group interaction between students and teachers.

K-5
Our lower school begins with kindergarten (British year 1). Children must be five years of age on or before 1 September. Continuing through grade 5 (British year 6), students are divided by grade level with one class teacher per grade level.  Academic instruction covers literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and Bible. Throughout the week students enjoy music, art, physical education, drama, library and computers under the instruction of staff specializing in these areas.

6-8
Our middle school comprises students in grades 6-8 (British years 7-9). Classes are departmentalized giving students the opportunity to move from class to class and to learn from teachers who have specialized in these subject areas. Classes include literacy, mathematics, science, history, geography, Bible, Albanian or French, ICT, physical education, and creative arts (music, art, and drama).

9-12
Our high school begins with grade 9 (British year 10) and offers internationally recognized, college-preparatory curricula. Many of our students in grades 9-10 participate in the University of Cambridge IGCSE program (www.cie.org.uk). Our students in grades 11-12 (years 12-13) have the opportunity to participate in the Advanced Placement (www.collegeboard.com) program.  Graduation requirements include a set number of credits in English, mathematics, science, social sciences, Bible, foreign language, fine arts, computers, physical education and health. Students will also select several elective classes. Upon completion of grade 12 (year 13), students are awarded a high school diploma.

ESL
With students coming from 20 plus nations, GDQ International Christian School offers an ESL program to those students who do not have English as their academic language. Our ESL program gives students the opportunity to focus on academic vocabulary and writing skills that will equip them to succeed in the classroom at a level equal to or above their native English classmates.

Special Projects

The investment of your financial resources toward one of the following projects would strengthen GDQ's ability to serve both the missionary community and the Albanian Christian community. Donations may be given online to GDQ International Christian School through TeachBeyond.  Please follow the link How to give online for specific details.

Mentoring Program for Albanian Teachers – Albanian Christian parents have been praying and investigating the possibility of a Christian school for Albanian children. GDQ International Christian School will play a critical role in developing the school’s ethos by providing an internship program for the Albanian teachers who will teach at the school.  The cost to bring each Albanian Christian teacher into this internship program for one academic year is 3800 euros / 5000 USD.

Student Tuition Assistance – The GDQ community is comprised of missionary and non-missionary families.  All families pay tuition fees.  Student tuition assistance is open to all families. A private committee allocates monies based on financial need to those families applying for financial assistance.

Capital Funds Assistance – Gifts designated to this fund will be designated toward future school enhancements such as the purchase of land, structural enhancements to our current sites, or purchases to further develop our computer lab or science department. Presently, 750 euros / 1000 USD will buy 1 square meter of land.

Where Needed Most – The GDQ administration with the assistance of the GDQ Board of Directors and GDQ staff will determine where to designate these funds.

We are deeply grateful for your partnership.

Why Albania? Why GDQ?

Why Albania

In February of 1967, Enver Hoxha, Albania’s leader since the end of WWII until his death in 1985, declared Albania the world’s first atheist nation.  All churches and mosques were closed. Many of them destroyed.  Towns bearing religious names were renamed. Parents were no longer allowed to give their children a name associated with a religious faith.  Individuals who refused to give up their faith positions were arrested or forced into hiding.

Missionary organizations were warmly embraced following the fall of communism in 1991.  During the nineties, the gospel message was spread to every city and village in Albania.  Albanians were eager to learn of Christ and many made professions of faith.

Today, Albanians will identify themselves as Moslem, Orthodox, or Catholic. For most this is merely a label, in name only, as they have taken upon themselves the religious roots of their family prior to the rise of communism. Fewer than 1% of Albanians are evangelical believers. Jesus has commanded us to “go and make disciples of all nations.” First generation believers comprise the evangelical churches in Albania. These believers are young in their faith and in their understanding of biblical truth. It will take generations before missionaries are no longer needed here.

What are some benefits of working at GDQ International Christian School?

Contributing to the missionary effort in Albania by providing the children of missionaries a Christ-centered, international, and academically enriching education

Touching the lives of international children

Touching the lives of international, nonbelieving families who live and work in Albania

Gaining a broader educational view and perspective of the world

Connecting with missionary families and ministry organizations

Working with a multinational staff

Experiencing a different part of the world and a culture distinct from your own
