The Beginning

GDQ's founders were among the first missionary families in Albania after the fall of communism in 1991. They began with six preschoolers, one teacher, and a small room. As the missionary community quickly grew, the need arose for a larger, but affordable program. GDQ began in the fall of '93, encouraged by God's obvious intervention. Through the generosity of many organizations and individuals, the school garnered a building, skilled volunteer laborers to refurbish it, equipment, supplies, materials and, most importantly, qualified teachers.

We recently produced a short promotional video detailing a little about the school. If you would like to see the video click on the player below. If you would like a hard copy of this video please fill the form in the Contact us section and we will attempt to send you the DVD.

As a statement of faith the GDQ International Christian school has adopted the Lausanne Covenant (www.lausanne.org/covenant) in a slightly modified form.

The GDQ Board of Directors affirms this reading:

“We affirm the divine inspiration, truthfulness and authority of both Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety, as the only written Word of God, without error, and the only infallible rule of faith and practice.”

In addition, we also affirm “The Gospel of Jesus Christ: an Evangelical Celebration.” (www.seekgod.ca/ec.htm#gospel).

GDQ International Christian School is officially recognized as a Cambridge International Centre (CIC) by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE.) The school is able to offer and examine the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examination.

Philosophy of Education

GDQ International Christian School offers a Christ-centered education

In all its levels, programs, and teaching, GDQ International Christian School seeks to:

  1. Teach all subjects as parts of an integrated whole with the Scriptures at the center (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Deuteronomy 6:4-9).
  2. Cooperate with families and churches in providing a clear model of the Biblical Christian life through our staff and board (Matthew 22:37-40).
  3. Encourage every child to begin and develop his relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20, Matthew 19:13-15).

GDQ International Christian School provides an academically enriching international education

In all its levels, programs, and teaching, GDQ International Christian School seeks to:

  1. Emphasize academic excellence in all subjects.
  2. Encourage every student to develop a love for learning and to strive to live up to his/her academic potential.
  3. Provide a healthy, nurturing, and orderly atmosphere conducive to the attainment of the school mission.
  4. Offer an international education.

  1. Emphasize eternal priorities that give purpose to all academics.
  2. Encourage students to see their lives, talents, and resources in light of the kingdom of Christ.
  3. Encourage respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
  4. Encourage the nurturing of kingdom-minded young people.

GDQ International Christian School supports the evangelical protestant community

In all its levels, programs, and teaching, GDQ International Christian School seeks to:

  1. Support the work of the evangelical Protestant church in Albania by providing a sound educational option for the children of evangelical Protestant missionaries in Albania.
  2. Support the propagation of the historic evangelical Protestant faith as affirmed in the Lausanne Covenant of 1974 with the stipulation that we affirm that the Bible is without
    error.

Commitment to Excellence

GDQ has attracted qualified and experienced teachers. In addition, GDQ has creatively used talent from the community to broaden the GDQ educational experience in disciplines such as music, science, computers, language, art, drama and sports. This enables us to maintain the high standards to which we are committed.

Christian Ethos

Our primary aim is to prepare children to serve the Lord in society with excellence. We encourage students to develop a Christian world view and apply their faith. The teaching staff represents a variety of Christian denominations. We are sensitive to the diversity represented in our school community and seek to maintain a comfortable and accepting atmosphere in which students are free to explore, learn and creatively express themselves. At the same time, we believe that the family and the church hold the primary responsibility for a child's spiritual education. Along with academic standards, we work to instill character qualities such as: patience, kindness, humility, generosity, honesty and loyalty.

Commitment to Economy

With its roots in the missionary community of Tirana, GDQ has relied largely on gifts and contributions from supporting mission groups to meet its financial needs. As we expand our services, the cost of tuition will naturally increase. However, GDQ remains committed to providing a high quality educational experience while keeping costs as low as possible. Our firm Christian beliefs and commitment to missionary families will keep us eligible to receive most of our teaching staff from mission sending groups. Currently, all teachers are required to raise their own financial support and most come to GDQ through a sending mission agency. This and other forms of support allow us to set a relatively low tuition, yet preserve quality educational experiences.
